Chelsea in FM27
Chelsea is a search of its own: people want the shape that fits this squad in Football Manager 27, not a generic 4-4-2. A tactic plug that was written for a different club's players will strand roles. Start from the squad the game gives you in the preview, then look at roles you cannot fill.
FM Scout's wonderkid draft dated 29 October 2026 lists Estêvão at Chelsea as an attacking midfielder or wide forward with a 92 quick-draft rating, age 19. That is one source, marked by them as a quick draft, not a final PA. I am not building a tactic around a single 92. If the number moves after the database settles, the draft loses.
A 4-3-3 is the shape people will try because the wide attackers are the public story. The Dominator plug is one community 4-3-3, linked from the tactics page. It is not a Chelsea official set. Cole Palmer, or whoever leads your attack in the preview database, needs a role that matches how the match engine asks a wide or central forward to behave. I am not assigning him a duty from a screenshot.
Budgets are not copied from FM26. The finance guide explains why. If you are in the preview, play the matches, read tactical effectiveness, and change one instruction after a run of games. Use the starting plan below to make the responsibilities explicit, without promising a particular result.
For Chelsea, use Estêvão as an example of the wide-creator profile identified in the dated community list, rather than choosing him because of a 92 rating. If a central creator such as Palmer occupies the same inside space, keep one winger wider and use the opposite midfielder as the runner. Pick the holding player and centre-backs by their defensive coverage; no starting XI, budget or guaranteed availability is asserted from an unverified database.
A usable 4-3-3 starting plan
| Unit | Starting responsibility | What to look for |
|---|---|---|
| Goalkeeper | A simple passing option behind the centre-backs | Distribution and composure; avoid asking for risky passes without support |
| Two centre-backs | Hold the defensive line; one can start short passing moves | Positioning, aerial cover and recovery pace |
| Full-backs | Advance one side at a time; the opposite side stays available behind the ball | Stamina, decisions and recovery speed |
| Holding midfielder | Screen the centre and remain behind the two central midfielders | Positioning, anticipation and secure passing |
| Two central midfielders | One supports build-up; the other joins attacks when space opens | A balance of passing, work rate and movement |
| Wide attackers | One maintains width; the other can move inside when the full-back overlaps | Dribbling and chance creation, with room to receive |
| Central forward | Occupy centre-backs and connect with the nearest wide attacker | Movement, finishing and the ability to retain or link possession |
Instructions and adjustments
- Start with a balanced approach, normal passing risk and an organised defensive shape. These are editorial choices rather than a promise of the strongest preset.
- Create width on at least one side. When a wide attacker moves inside, let that side’s full-back provide the outside option; avoid sending both full-backs forward together at first.
- Keep the holding midfielder central. If counterattacks repeatedly reach the space in front of your centre-backs, reduce one midfielder or full-back’s forward movement before raising the defensive line.
- Against a deep defence, adjust one source of width or one midfield runner. Against a stronger pressing side, keep an extra short passing option and reduce risky build-up requests.
- Review whether chances come from the intended side and whether the central screen remains in place. Change one responsibility at a time so the effect remains understandable.
Training priorities for the first week
| Phase | Priority | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Early week | Team familiarity and cohesion | Teach the same attacking and defensive shape |
| Middle of week | One chosen tactical focus: pressing or a low block | The official training deep dive describes team sessions aimed at these plans |
| Before the match | Preparation and condition management | Avoid adding a new shape immediately before a match |
| After the match | Recovery and a review of one recurring problem | Keep tactical work proportionate to the fixture schedule |
What formation should Chelsea use?
Look at the wide attackers you actually have. A 4-3-3 is the shape people search. It is not a proven FM27 result.
Is Estêvão rated 92?
In FM Scout's 29 October quick draft, yes, as a draft rating. It is not an official number.
Where is the tactic file?
On FM Scout if you want a community 4-3-3. Not on this site.
