The article was published before the Launch Preview and also discusses the FM26 summer transfer update; final FM27 database availability is not independently confirmed.

Wages are the bill. The portal separates the transfer budget from the wage budget. A free signing spends the second bar. An older 89-rated striker can still be the wrong signature if the contract eats the wage room you needed for a wonderkid later.
